At long last (since right before our honeymoon when requested), I put together a little guide on how to stay organized on your phone and laptop with all of the images that take over our space! It’s good timing for this post because I realized that this is something that was overwhelming me a bit and distracting me each week. Since this post was requested, I’ve spent time organizing and coming up with new de-cluttering solutions as I needed to figure this out for myself, too!
Dropbox
I use Dropbox quite a bit to hold current folders with images for my blog and social media (mainly). I have space for 2k GB, but try to keep it as clean as possible. I usually edit blog images on my laptop and then will save in individual folders (based on a shoot, day, or trip, etc.) so that I can easily access them on my phone. What I plan to do going forward is freshen up my Dropbox at the end of each month, and transfer anything I don’t need on hand over to my external drive…
External Drive
I got this external hard drive a year or so ago and it’s been a godsend. I kept getting that “Disk is Full” memo and it was slowing everything down. I bought the drive from Amazon and it’s so easy to use! You just plug into the USB dock and can drag and drop folders into it. I have all of our photos of Scout, projects from the past year, blog assets, graphic design folders, and most recently ALL of our highest res wedding photos. It holds so much and is just such a lifesaver. I can’t recommend it enough.
iPhone Photo Albums
In getting organized on my phone… I decided to create a few albums within my photo app so that I find things much faster. I made folders like ‘Scout’, ‘inspiration’ (mainly screenshots I take), and ‘graphics’ I use sometimes for Instagram. I do the same thing here as Dropbox where each month I sift through the archives. Delete anything I don’t need anymore, send images I want to keep to Dropbox, and save images I want to keep on my phone to photo app folders. It’s a little bit time consuming (usually takes 15-20 minutes), but it’s always worth it! If you want to be proactive though you can do this weekly.
I really hope this helped! I definitely have not mastered the art or organization but I try my best and these things seem to work for me right now. If you have any tips yourself, I would love to hear them in the comments below. xx
Thank you for your feedback, Kate! Appreciate it –– I didn’t have the time to add each one from IG, but swapped out the featured image because you’re right! xx
