The Importance of Changing up Your Routine

8 May

It’s been a little over two years now since I’ve worked for myself. In the endless learning experience { that is freelancing } I’ve found that taking the time to do things that help keep my creative juices moving and positive perspective is one of the most important aspects of my job. Changing things up and pushing myself in new ways is crucial for me to grow, be productive, and feel accomplished and valued. I’ve learned to invest in myself every single day. I recently decided that each week, I’m going to do a few things differently with my routine. Avoid lather-rinse-repeat at all costs! Gotta keep it interesting and stretch my creativity and mind in new ways. Here are a few inspiring rituals I’ve been focusing on lately…

Something enlightening.

I’ve been listening to a podcast { The Accidental Creative by Todd Henry } non-stop for the past week, and it’s so good! Highly highly recommend if you create for a living. Isn’t it the best when you fortuitously discover something that totally speaks to you? So refreshing to walk away from a podcast with so many takeaways. I’ve been listening to them in the mornings over coffee and while I work out. When I can really focus and take in every word. I’m definitely going to be tuning into podcasts more often. If you have any favorites, please do share!

Change of scenery.

Since moving, I’ve been loving midday walk breaks and taking in the pretty streets around our new apartment. Scout and I have been picking up coffee in the morning and walking up the hill towards Pacific Heights before I start my day. One of the easiest ways to find new inspiration is putting your phone away and completely taking in the details of a surrounding–even if it’s just a beautiful row of homes, a few blocks away, that I’ve never noticed before.

Bring good energy.

Give a smile to a stranger, compliment someone– being the good vibes in the world will not only infectiously boost other people’s day, but makes an incredible impact on your day, too.

Immerse yourself in something that lights you up.

I have a 20 minute { timed } block on my calendar each day, where I’ve been scrolling through Pinterest to collect inspiration (will always be my favorite social platform!). Color stories, cool angles for photography, interior ideas, dreamy scenes are simply good for my soul. I get this magical rush of energy when I give my eyes a visual treat. It’s one of the best parts of my morning lately.

Another thing is bringing my camera with me! On said coffee walks with scout or even capturing an outfit/playing with pretty golden light on my way to dinner with a girlfriend… makes all the difference!
