Over the years, ‘less is more’ really rings true for me with my f/w wardrobe. I’ve learned to focus on collecting quality pieces that I will hold on to forever. My trick has been to sift through my closet this time of year to feel out what is needed for the colder months ahead. Tip: try selling a bevy of unworn items and put that money towards something nice!
From there, I make a list of a few investments to keep an eye out for. I’ll collect a bunch of options and go with my gut on which piece I’ll treasure most and will work best with what I’ve got. This usually entails an amazing pair of boots, a beautiful coat, or maybe a new bag. Since I mainly live in quality layers this time of year, I prefer to go big with the accents!
Some of my go-to brands that I love and trust—IRO (I have a good collection of their jackets at this stage, the best), Totême, Bottega Veneta, Isabel Marant, Anine Bing, Theory, Vince, Dear Frances, LOQ, Freda Slavador —to name a few.
Once I narrow down a goal for the seasonal investments I hope to find, I then keep an eye on a handful of favorite affordable shops that are both great quality yet easy on the wallet. I like to buy a couple things to rotate throughout the season. A few places I like to browse regularly—& Other Stories (for great knitwear, coats, and boots!), Sézane (swear by their knitwear), Mango (huge site-wide sale right now!), COS, Aritzia, and Massimo Dutti.
If you’re more in the mood for minimalism this year and just want little things that go a long way… try a new autumnal scent, test drive a few new nail colors, or add something pretty to your jewelry collection. Last year I collected two amazing Anderson’s belts and a cashmere beanie… and I am excited to revisit them this year!
This post is just a starting point to our fall style chats. My annual roundups are coming soon (boot edit is up next!). In the meantime, you can browse my fall/winter shop here… and be sure to take a peek at my Fall Capsule board. x
