What are your top 5 must-have f/w investments that are worth the splurge?
A great wool coat, comfortable knee and/or ankle boots, a leather bag, a beautiful knit. I have all of these styles and couldn’t love them more.
Something that I have learned over the years is that once you invest in a couple of timeless, quality things… you have a whole new perspective on what you collect. You begin to notice what you truly feel good wearing and what stands the test of time. I would rather have one nice coat than a handful that lose their luster over time because of lack of quality. One nice coat to get excited about wearing every season will make you appreciate that investment for years to come. It’s worth it.
How to decide which key investment pieces to start with?
My first big investment was a designer leather bag. Something I have been wearing now for 6 or so years and it’s still in such excellent shape and so loved. I felt like that was a great place to start as it instantly elevates outfits on the daily.
I also started collecting nice knits a handful of years ago. I was living in San Francisco, where it’s an average of 60º year-round, so this made sense for me and my lifestyle. Depending on where you live, ask yourself what category is the hero of my closet?
I’m looking to buy my first designer bag, what are your favorites under $3000?
So exciting! I have a bevy of favorites saved below. I love styles by Jil Sander (want this), The Row, Saint Laurent (I like logo-less styles) on Mytheresa.
What is your favorite denim this time of year?
You know my obsession with Agolde Toni (just got this black pair)! The best. I also bought a pair of Toteme jeans a few years ago (this black pair) and also love this light denim. They take a bit of wearing-in to soften up (in my opinion) but once you do they are such a staple. Frame has also become a major favorite. They always have *so many* styles to choose from which is really handy.
What is your advice for investing in f/w accessories?
Quality over quantity for sure in this department! A lovely cashmere scarf and/or beanie—you will quickly realize how far these investments take you! I look forward to my nice scarf collection each year when the cold slap of winter comes around. I’m obsessed with this one, particularly, it’s SO gorgeous! Which items are on your current wish list and why?
I’ve had these Isabel Marant boots on my wish list for a couple of years now… they are arriving this week! Obsessed with the western vibe yet understated and super feminine. I really like the cut on top and will love wearing with ponte pants and big knits or shirt jackets. I also just invested in this Totême coat that was on my list for a long time. Lastly, I have heard the most wonderful things about Jimmy Choo shoes and how comfortable they are. Eyeing these!!! I have a great neutral/simple collection at the moment and I’m craving something fun to add. I feel like they would be the perfect exclamation mark to a simple f/w outfit.
