Editor’s Note, 7.20

“There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen”. That pretty much sums up 2020.

Well, hello! Halfway through the year, and what an experience it has been. I mentioned this article yesterday from Vogue and think everyone should have a read. Inspired by their reset movement, I thought that would be a perfect theme this month. Alongside resetting, our world needs all the love and light we can give right now.

“If we are going to evolve, to a place of greater fairness and safety for our planet and its people, our future cannot look exactly like our past. We are going to need a genuine rethink about many areas of our lives. Our attitudes, our priorities, our compassion. What and how we consume. What we stand for and how we voice it.” ― Edward Enninful, British Vogue

July Agenda

Matt and I were chatting about how the first few months of the pandemic, we gave ourselves lenience to work through everything going on, but it’s time to regain order. We decided we needed to create and maintain a better structure in our home during weekdays and continue to seek balance, solo downtime, and creative ways to live our lives while being safe. Learning daily how to navigate through life as we know it.

This month, I plan to spend more time reading, educating myself so I can take part in positive change in our world, getting into a better groove with work/life balance, and taking on healthier rituals that keep my motivation, spirits, and productivity high.

I want to spend more time on old and new hobbies, too! I am thinking about doing a few DIY projects I’ve been dreaming up, working on my writing, experiment with my camera. Make a list of feel-good things that excite you, rituals that get you in the zone, and spend time on them. For me it’s photography, reading in the sunshine, recipe testing, picnicking, flower arranging, time spent by the sea, long walks with music, home styling, organizing…

I am in need of a personal reset, these are my recipes to get there.

Inspired By

Lately, I’ve been inspired by a few interior projects I’m working on (my own apartment and two fun clients!). If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, is to follow the things that light you up. There is no better time than now to explore your curiosities.

I’m really excited to get back to work after a little time off. It feels nice to be back at my laptop and collecting inspiration for the month ahead. I’ve been saving a ton of summer pieces to my shop pages, but a few blog posts up my sleeve for this week, too.

Reading

I mentioned this last week, but I finally finished Untamed by Glennon Doyle, and wow, what an amazing book. I know I will return to it again and again… I basically highlighted half of the book. She is an amazing storyteller, incredible at explaining things so beautifully and concisely. She’s also hilarious and had me laughing throughout the entirety of the book. It was also crazy the relevance in a lot of things she spoke about that are currently going on in the world… a must-read if you haven’t yet.

I started a new book called Girl, Woman, Other, which came highly recommended by so many. Also, Matt just finished reading Nickel Boys, and said it was such an important read, so that’s on my list, too.

I also just got my World of Interiors issue in the mail and am looking forward to diving into that today. Favorite!

I hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer… happy July! xx
