How I’m Getting Organized for ’21

I am the type who likes to plan and prepare for a fresh start… I LOVE fresh starts, so it’s just part of the fun for me, really…

Here is my game plan this week to get things in order over here. Winter is the one season I find myself struggling a bit to chug along at certain points, so I am going to set myself up for a clear mind and a happy heart to start this year on a positive and uplifting note. Feed my spirit with things I love and plans to look forward to (like my new garden endeavor!). And in order to kick things off right, I like to clear my plate, get our house organized, and line up inspiration for when I head back to work Monday morning.

A few notes on how I plan to tidy things up below… inspiration talk will come tomorrow with 2021’s first post: Editor’s Note! x

Digital Cleanup

Lately, I’ve noticed that half my inbox gets trashed without me even opening, so I decided to cut through the clutter and have a little ‘unsubscribe party’. I swear, I didn’t sign up for half of them myself, anyway. If you do this each day over the next week, you’ll start to only see the things you actually want to read.

Next up? My desktop and photo album need some major attention! And then we’ll move on to social media. I always go through each platform and tidy my profile up a bit, edit who I follow, etc. I like to ensure that the media I consume serves me! Life is too short to have it any other way…

On that note, thank you so much if you’ve subscribed to my newsletter! I appreciate you making room for me in your inbox– I know how precious that real estate is. I promise it’ll be back in action soon… right after I got back to it this fall, morning sickness kicked in… I’m working on it!

Closet Organization

Another important one on my list this weekend is to organize a couple of storage closets that we quickly filled in upon moving in. I love having a clutter-free, orderly closet– so even though it’s a pain in the butt and will take up a few hours, it’s always worth it and I swear… when everything has a place, I can think so much more clearly…

I also plan to make sure our pantry and fridge are in good shape!

Organize Your Work Space

Same thing goes for your work space, but even more important in my eyes! When I am surrounded by a tidy environment, I am so much more productive. Can you tell I am easily distractible based on these notes so far? Cleaning up my desk and getting things all styled a ready so that Monday morning I am focused and ready to go!

Deep Clean Your Home

I haven’t done this since we moved in, so I plan to do a little more of a deep clean on our bathrooms / vacuum and Swiffer, clean surfaces/mirrors, finish up laundry and wash our bedding. I love that feeling of everything being fresh…

Get Yourself a New Planner/Agenda

Treat yourself to a new planner! My favorite is Golden Coil—fully customizable, which is so fun! I also have always loved Five Star notebooks since I was younger… I just got a new one in the mail and it’s where I jot down ideas, inspiration, and all of my lists!

How do you organize for a new year? Would love to know!

  1. Love this! I love the promise that the fresh start of January offers. This year I made the switch to an Appointed planner and I can’t wait to get stuck into it! And I’m so looking forward to the newsletter coming back out, when you’re ready
    🙂

    1. Love that! Those planners are lovely… happy new year, Chelsea! xx

  2. An organised life makes beautiful luxe black organisers with a custom foil monogram on vegan leather. I’ve been eyeing them off and think it will be a great start to the new year.

    1. I think I saw that one on The Undone store and had to take a peek because it’s so pretty! Love it, you should get it! xx

  3. I’d love to hear about your goal setting for this year (and how you set goals/intentions and check in with them)! And also how you stay organized with your planner, lists etc, I think it’d make a great post!

    1. Thank you for saying hi and the post idea! I’ve actually been thinking about this *a lot*. I hit a big goal of mine this past year, one that has been a goal of mine for I think a couple of years now… and so I need to set some new ones. It’s been a while since I had my heart set on something like that, so I’m excited to dive deeper and figure out what makes the most sense for me now!

As for staying organized with my planner and day to day—eek! I always say that for my work life… there’s no method to my madness. I kind of go through phases where I am better about my planner / calendar… but so much of my work is based on how I’m feeling and what I’m in the mood to tackle. I like to run with what is inspiring me and when I am having off uninspired days, I focus on organization and admin. So, I might not be the best person to seek advice from in that department, haha! I do love Evernote though to jot down ideas / game plans for the day or week ahead, too.

      Happy new year! x

  4. Hi Ashley, I absolutely love that footed tray! Where is it from may I ask?
